BIO

David S. Jones is Pro-Vice Chancellor at Queen’s University, Belfast. He is internationally recognised for his research concerning the application of biomaterials science to address the industrial and clinical issues associated with implants and pharmaceutical dosage forms. This includes Polymer platforms to inhibit life-threatening problems associated with medical devices, and implants that adhere to tissues upon application and offer engineered drug-elution rates. His research has influenced manufacture practice and dosage form design such as biodegradable ocular implants providing controlled drug delivery, designed to treat sight-threatening diseases. His research has resulted in 21 commercialised products, most notably the viscoelastic device designed to improve stoma health and patients’ quality of life.
